Author ‘not worried’

An Auckland author, Mr Neil Foord, is not worried about possible legal action by two Christchurch hoteliers over a passage in his novel, “The Scam.” “I set out to write a believable New Zealand crime thriller. Obviously, with this kind of threat, some people believe it a bit too much,” said Mr Foord. X The managers r of Warner’s New Hotel, Messrs Stan O’Keefe and John McCarthy, were seeking legal advice last week when they saw that the hotel — which they have improved — was named in the book as a place where underworld “hit men” could be hired. Mr Foord said the hoteliers seemed to 'have forgotten the book was only a story.

“Given that it is a crime thriller, they really have no ground for complaint,” he said.
