Cave Rock

Sir, —May I . have an assurance from the Christchurch Drainage Board that restoration work will be undertaken at the recently installed Cave Rock stormwater outfall? Specifically, what is needed is the replacement of loose rubble by heavy rock fill to avoid the present spreading of the rubble across the foreshore and into the cave, removal of rubble from what was .formerly a sandy floored cave, unblocking of the cave mouth to its former extent, and the removal of paint marks from the cave entrance area. Failure to carry out this work will leave this very popular recreation area considerably less attractive than previously. May the Drainage Board also assure that this restoration work is carried out before the oncoming holiday period? — Yours, etc., POMA PALMER. December 15, 1986.

[Mr H. P. Hunt, chief engineer, Christchurch Drainage Board, replies: “Restoration work is being carried out to the requirements of the Christchurch City Council. The paint markings on the rock will be removed. All this work will be completed as soon as is practicable.”]
