Gymnasts selected
Kay Nicholson, aged 16, is one of four young New Zealand gymnasts who have been nationally
selected to compete in an international meet in Hawaii next week. The competition is called the Aloha Fest and it is the third time that New Zealand has sent a team to take part.
Miss Nicholson is the only Canterbury person chosen, the remaining three coming from Nelson and Auckland. ’
The New Zealand Gymnastics Association will no doubt look on the event as
a good opportunity for the
top juniors to gain valuable experience against the best that the United States has to offer.
The trip will also be seen as part of a development plan from which the association will select a team to compete at the World Games in Rotterdam next year. After the Aloha Fest, the four will travel to Los
Angeles, where they will train for a week at one of the city’s top gymnasiums. The team will leave New Zealand on Boxing
Day and will be accompanied by a chaperone and a coach-manager.
