Fears held for lone yachtsman

NZPA-AAP Sydney An air and sea search has begun for a lone French yachtsman feared missing off the New South Wales south coast in the 8.0. C. Challenge round-the-world race. Rescue aircraft and a Royal Australian Navy ship have been called in to search for the 16m Skoiern IV, whose skipper, Jacques De Roux, is believed to be sick or to have fallen overboard.

The yacht was last seen by a race aircraft at lunchtime yesterday. Its sails were flapping and it was sailing erratically, a 8.0. C. spokeswoman said.
