975 vehicles stopped
Traffic officers and the police stopped 975 vehicles at checkpoints throughout Christchurch last evening.
Thirteen drivers underwent breath-screening tests and six went on for evidential tests.
Senior-Sergeant Syd Burt, of the Ministry of Transport, said that the number of drivers requiring tests was pleasing, given the large number of vehicles stopped.
“If we can continue with that number we will be very happy,” he said.
