National has new secretarygeneral

Wellington reporter The National Party has appointed the executive director of the Bankers’ Association, Mr Max Bradford, as the new secretary-general. Mr Bradford, formerly the director of advocacy for the Employers’ Federation, succeeds Mr Barrie Leay. The appointment was announced yesterday by the party president, Mr Neville Young. He said National was fortunate to have been able to acquire the skills and experience of Mr Bradford. Mr Bradford was educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School and later at the University of Canterbury, where he graduated with a master of commerce honours degree. He has worked for many years at the Treasury and also for the International Monetary Fund. He stood this year for the party’s nomination to contest the Ohariu seat at the next General Election, but was beaten by. Mr David Lloyd, the head of the Opposition research unit at Parliament.
