New church for Dutch celebration

The removal of the historic St Andrew’s Church from its site opposite Christchurch Hospital to Rangi Ruru Girls’ School means a new venue has to be found for the annual Nederlands Kerstfeest normally held at the church by the Dutch community. The traditional Christmas celebration will now be held at the Reformed Church in Cornwall Street, St Albans, today, at 8 p.m. Before its removal several months ago, St Andrew’s Church had been the venue for the celebration for 33 years. Up to 200 people will attend the service, which will be led jointly by the Rev. Dirk van Garderen, of Bishopdale, and the Rev. Henk Kaspers, of Geraldine.
