Farmers on flying charges remanded

PA Wellington Seven farmers allegedly involved in buzzing the Beehive in light aircraft last April 30 may have their cases dealt with in March.

They have all pleaded not guilty to summary charges (one charge each) that last April 30, being pilots in command of small aircraft, they flew over Wellington at a lower height than 1000 ft. The charges were brought under the Civil AviaSon Regulations 1953. When the charges were called in the District Court at Wellington before Judge Bate, their counsel, Mr Justin Smith, sought remands at large for all of the defendants to a special fixture date of March 22 and 23.

The application was granted.

The defendants are: Denis Frank Atkinson, Nelson; Barry Ronald Cowley, Rangiora; Michael Robin Cronin, Hallet Maurice Griffen, and Thomas McGubbin Perrie, all of Palmerston North, Robert John Thurston, Masterton and David D’Arcy Wareham of Ashhurst.
