Barcelona blasts
Powerful bomb blasts blamed on Basque guerrillas injured 28 people and destroyed two French businesses in Barcelona yesterday in an apparent campaign against expulsions of suspected separatists from France to Spain, the police said. The blasts occurred only hours after France handed over a Basque to the Spanish police.—Barcelona Suspect released A Kurd detained by detectives hunting the killer of the Swedish Prime Minister, Olof Palme, has been released. Doctor struck off
A Sydney doctor who conspired to import 5.5 tonnes of cannabis from the Middle East has been struck off the medical register. Nicholas George Paltos, aged 46, had earlier pleaded guilty to the conspiracy and was sentenced to 20 years jail, with 13 years nonparole.—Sydney Contraband explosion A man and a woman trying to smuggle firecrackers into Uruguay were killed in an explosion after the police shot at their truck, authorities said. The unidentified pair were carrying some 500 kg of contraband firecrackers from Brazil.—Montevideo
