Guard of Honour wins in close finish

Guard of Honour came out on top in a desperately close finish to the Towers Hotel Mile, a race which went close to providing a quadruple deadheat. Guard of Honour won by a nose from Haughty Bay and Floyd, which dead-heated for second half a head in front of Fergus Mclvor.

Montana Star added further interest to the finish by dashing into fifth only a half a length from Fergus Mclvor and just

ahead of Boyden Royale, which tried for a run along the inner. Haughty Bay set the pace, being joined by Guard of Honour in the back straight. Both horses drifted out in the straight, making it difficult for Floyd to make progress.

It was Guard of Honour’s third win from four starts this season for his Prebbleton trainer, Graham Pearson. He will have plenty of opportunities to extend his record over the holiday period.
