Italian boat racer out of hospital
PA Auckland Ms Giovanna Repossi, injured in an accident during the world offshore powerboat championships last week, has been discharged from Auckland Hospital. She said from her hotel bed yesterday that she plans to return to Milan this morning with her driver husband, Angelo Spelta, who was also injured in the accident, and their son, Damiano, aged 20, who accompanied his parents to New Zealand.
Both Ms Repossi and Spelta were injured after they were ejected from their boat last Thursday. She suffered internal injuries, while Spelta suffered a broken leg and facial injuries. The New Zealand powerboat champion, Barry Thompson, is still seriously ill in Auckland Hospital. His boat Sunday News nosedived and overturned in an incident several minutes before the Italians struck trouble.
