Wigram road race to Meffan
Pat Meffan (University) won the Roche Wigram 10km classic road race at Wigram air base in Christchurch-
Meffan and Don Craig (New Brighton) opened up a big lead in the first 2km before Meffan powered away to win by almost a minute in 31 min 335. Kevin O’Sullivan (University) led the chase after Greig and finished in 32:45, 16s behind Greig. Kevin Barnes (Christchurch) stayed with O’Sullivan until near the end, while Bruce Meder (University) and Mel Radcliffe (Sumner) did the best of the rest.
Colleen Bardsley (Sumner), eligible to race as a veteran opted to compete in the open grade and dead-heated with the first veteran woman, Marie Stokes (Sumner) in 39:39. Another Sumner veteran, Helen Grant, was third in 41:23.
Duane Humphreys was the first home in the "secondary schools' one-lap race, while Caroline Barrie finished fourth, and was the first girl
