Flying Fifteen titles

NZPA Hong Kong New Zealand yachtsmen participating in the Hong Kong Flying Fifteen championships have experienced difficulty adapting to the light conditions.

With two races remaining in the six race championship two Napier yachtsmen, Barry Finlayson and Ron Atken, in Skin Fflint have sailed themselves into twelfth position overall.

In thirteenth overall is the Christchurch crew of Marton Sinclair and Greg Bowater. Finlayson won the world title in 1980 and is the present New Zealand champion, but he and other members of the New Zealand team have struggled to find form in the

Hong Kong event which concludes today. The Hong Kong championships have been staged as a build-up event for the world championships which begin here on Wednesday. Leading the competition, and obviously benefiting from local knowledge, are Eric Lockeyear and John Brinkers in Roughgh Trade from Hong Kong.

Another Hong Kong boat Fflocci (sailed by Bertie de Speville and Simon Westbrook) occupies third place, while two other entries from the colony occupy top 10 positions.

Two Australians, Glen Coulton and Grant Schultz, are in third place in Instant Replay.
