Six Heathcote owners face prosecution
Six Heathcote property owners will be prosecuted for not complying with notices asking them to remove noxious plants from their properties, the Heathcote County Council was told last evening. Cr Bob Simcock, the council’s representative on the Banks Peninsula District Noxious Plants Authority, said a further two persons were likely to have notices served on them under section 38 of the Noxious Plants Act, 1978. This section advises that the council may itself remove the noxious plants — at the expense of the owner — if the property owner has already been asked to remove the plants and has not done so. Cr Simcock said the number of notices being served was hign because the Noxious Plants Authority was “getting tough.”
Survey A survey of Heathcote residents to find their reaction to the proposed local body amalgamation may not be made until March next year because of the amount of time conciliation talks are taking, said the County Chairman, Mr Oscar Alpers. "Even if the conciliation was completed by December, the survey could not take place until March next year. “I am concerned that the survey date seems to be getting further and further away and people will start to feel that the single city is an accepted fact and that there is no longer a controversy.” Mr Alpers said he was concerned that when the survey was finally made there would not be as much interest as there would have been had the survey been conducted six or 12 months ago.
