Gallopers return home
By J. J. BOYLE Samasaan and Reingard, campaigners for Riccarton stables in Australia recently, have returned home and plans for their summer programmes in New Zealand will be decided within the next week or two. If Garth Jackson is satisfied with Samasaan’s work the chestnut will be prepared for the Wellington Cup, a race he won last January. Jackson said yesterday that he was able to get a gallop into Samasaan be-
fore he left Melbourne. While the stayer made average time for the morning he did not perform to the complete satisfaction of his trainer, and was allowed to miss last Saturday’s Sandown Cup. Reingard, which won the Canberra Cup before he moved into Victoria, was a creditable fourth in the Werribee Cup, but did not thrive for Brydon Mills when temperatures reached the 40s in his temporary base at Bendigo.
