Nuclear stance
Sir, —It is interesting to note the formation of a new proA.N.Z.U.S. group (November 18). Given that there is a United States Information Service campaign to subvert our nuclear-free zone (May 22), the public needs to be aware of possible external support for the Right-wing proA.N.Z.U.S. movement. A visiting ex-C.I.A. agent, Ralph McGehee, claimed that he could see the hand of the C.I.A. behind the recent emergence of reactionary groups. Certainly, such activities of the C.I.A. are well documented in Third World countries. If C.I.A. inspiration cannot currently be proved in New Zealand’s case, we do have evidence of similar United States Information Service activity here in the past (September 19, 1984). It may be significant that certain key members of the proA.N.Z.U.S. movement have been on United States Information Service trips to America. —Yours, etc D. K. SMALL. November 18, 1986.
