Jean Rapier settles

PA Wellington Trainer Graeme Rogerson is thrilled with the way steeplechaser, Jean Rapier has settled into his new surrounds in South Carolina, and he will finalise plans for the gelding’s North American race-debut later this week. Jean Rapier will be ridden by Paul Hillis in the U.S. where his main assignment is the Colonial Cup on November 16. 'Tm very happy with him,” Rogerson said. “We had his blood count taken yesterday and it was good.” “He had 48 hours of travelling to get there but has done well.” Jean Rapier is in the care of Rogerson’s stable foreman, Keith Hawton, and is being stabled at the Camden Racecourse in South Carolina. “He will be schooled for the first time since arriving this Friday but we’re not sure where his first start will be,” Rogerson said. The options are a 3600 m steeplechase at Maryland on November 1 but Rogerson thinks the distance might be too short and there is a 14 hour float trip to reach the track. An alternative debut date is the Columbia Steeplechase on November 2. The course is only two hours away and the distance of the race further.
