Composer has Friday recital
Christchurch composer, Eric Biddington, will give a recital in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre at 1.10 p.m. on Friday. Eric Biddington began studying violin and composition at Canterbury University in 1971 under the direction of the Czech Quartet, and completed his bachelor of music in theory in 1974. That year he took part in the first Sonic Circus, a festival of New Zealand music held in Wellington. He was a member of the Music Theatre group CAP led by John Couzins and went on to tour nationally with both CAP and From
Scratch. A member of the “Scuola di Chiesa,” a group which specialised in the performance of music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Eric Biddington gave his earliest public performances of original music during the 1974 Commonwealth Games Arts Festival. Subsequent years saw him return to the Ham School of Music to obtain an honours degree in composition. Eric Biddington mainly composes for smaller instrumental groups, on which this recital will focus.
