Tap awards

Seven young tap dancers will represent Christchurch in the national tap competition in Blenheim. Three more will represent Ashburton in the 35strong competition, to be held on October 31 and November 1. Competitors have been nominated by their associations and must be more than 15. The dancers must perform two- compulsory and one optional dance choreographed to music chosen by the adjudicator, Mr Les Griffiths, of Australia.

The first prize in the national awards is $lOOO with $2OO going to the two runners-up. The 1983 winner, Leola Goodall, is now a teacher and has two of her students among this year’s nominees. The Christchurch and Ashburton nominees are Denise Barbara, Robyn Day, Nicola Donald,' Angela Fahey, Sally Gibson, Mandy Roberts, Keryn Swanston (Christchurch), Lisa Ching, Angela Wallace, and Jeanette Wright (Ashburton ).
