Commercial subjects popular
PA Wellington School Certificate pupils are increasingly choosing commercial subjects this year, according to the Education Department. Provisional figures show about 75,300 pupils will sit School Certificate examinations this year compared with 73,500 last year.
The department’s assistant administration director, Mr Tony Leverton, said two-thirds of this year’s increase was made up by candidates in South Pacific Island countries.
Although commercial subjects showed the biggest increase in popularity, English was once again the most popular choice with 47,000 entries.
