Dearer forestry charges

PA Wellington The Forest Service will charge up to $35 an hour for advice, it was announced yesterday. The Acting DirectorGeneral of Forests, Mr Alan Familton, said this was in. line with Government’s user-pays policy. “A cost-recovery target for advisory services has been set for the current financial year and a system of charges has been developed,” he said. A basic hourly rate of between $3O and $35 would apply, but the de-

partment would prefer to work out a package for individuals covering all the services required. “We have had to develop an integrated charging system which includes activities such as management of a block of forest for several years or more routine work such as advice on weatherboards,” Mr Familton said. Advisory officers were probably better known for

their expertise and advice in farm foresty, but they provided a wide range of services relating to trees, timber and forestry, he said. Their work included giving financial and forest management advice, carrying out feasibility studies, valuations, timber sales and advising on timber uses, grading and preservation.
