Support for N. Korea

NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, has said his country will boycott the 1988 Seoul Olympics unless North Korea is made co-host of the games.

Ortega was speaking at a banquet in his honour hosted by the North Korean President, Kim llsun, in Pyongyang yesterday, according to the North Korean Central News Agency, monitored in Tokyo.

“Our Nicaragua will not participate in the games if the co-hosting proposal of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) is not realised,” he was quoted as saying.

Off-and-on talks have taken place between North Korea and South Korea on the North’s demand to stage some Olympic events. The North had earlier demanded all 23 events be equally shared by the two Koreas.
