Fishermen feared lost

PA New Plymouth Searchers say two New Plymouth fishermen are missing, presumed drowned, after the disappearance of their fishing boat yesterday. The two men are: Mr Leslie Roy Styles aged 51; and his son, Barry Peter Styles, aged 22. A spokesman for search and rescue personnel in Wellington said a search for the two men had been called off when darkness fell and searchers would look for their bodies today. The New Plymouth police received a radio call from another local fisherman concerned about the disappearance of the men’s 7.8-metre boat Arahonui, which followed his vessel out to sea from New Plymouth in the early morning, said Senior-Sergeant Alvin Burr. The skipper of the larger San Amelio said he feared for the safety of the Arahonui’s crew. The boat was last seen at 9.30 a.m. about nine nautical miles north of New Plymouth.
