Man on rape charge
PA Auckland A man, aged 23, will appear in the District Court at Auckland today charged with sexual violation of a Canadian woman tourist. He and a woman, aged 17, will also face charges of aggravated robbery. The police said that the tourist, aged 19, was due to have left by aircraft for Canada last evening with her mother, with whom she had been on holiday. She was raped in an Auckland park as she walked from a nightclub to her hotel about 4.30 a.m. The spokesman said the couple offered to accompany the woman along Queen Street. As they passed a park it was alleged that the man dragged her down a bank and raped her while his companion rummaged through her purse.
