Chris Johnson trains first winner
The Wellington-owned Sea Bride broke through for an overdue first success in the Euphronius Maiden No. 2 at Ashburton yesterday, giving the popular Riccarton horseman, Chris Johnson, his first training success.
Johnson, aged 22, experienced a highly pofitable innings last season, kicking home 82 winners in New Zealand, including New Zealand and Wellington Cup wins on Samasaan.
Johnson started the current season in spectacular fashion, winning the A.I.C. International Winter Cup on Kar Dan, but undoubtedly gained added pleasure in riding Sea Bride to an effortless four length win in yesterday’s $2BOO race.
Johnson, who will partner members of Garth Jackson’s team on a Melbourne campaign later in
the spring, has two other horses in work at present, both unraced maidens.
