League clean sweep

PA Auckland A three-try blitz against Great Britain in the final 15 minutes maintained New Zealand's unbeaten record in the World Universities rugby league tournament at Western Springs. New Zealand, already assured of a place in the final against Australia today, finished strongly for a 28-12 win and a clean sweep in the five nations tournament. The Kiwis will be looking to strengthen their side and sharpen the attack for the final against Australia. Earlier, the Australians looked impressive in scoring 10 tries in a 56-16 win over Papua New Guinea. The Australians play a very patterned game and the errors which saw New Zealand take so long to finally come out on top against Great Britain will have to be eliminated in the final. New Zealand led Great Britain, 8-0, at half-time but had three times crossed the line in the first spell only to have the try disallowed. Scorers: Australia 56 (J. Hail, K. Loder, D. Lamb 2, D. O’Keefe, M. Stewart, D. Moore, S. Seamer, C. Condon, J. Thompson tries; M. Turner 4 con, G. Tobin 4 con.); Papua New Guinea 16 (D. Piscule, G. Awab, R. Koraki tries; Koraki 2 con). New Zealand, 28 (G. Vaafusuaga, P. Tuisamoa, U. Tui, J. Ropati tries; Ropati 4 con., 2 pen.); Great Britain 12 (L. Freeman, K. Murphy tries; P. Brennan pen., con.).
