Tools of survival

Sir, —Nagrenda Singh, president of the International Court of Justice, the Hague, comments: “Humanity has a right to live in peace and the citizens of all the States of the world have a duty to help each other to get rid of violence both in deed and thought.” In contrast our own Warren Cooper speaks of those who "choose to believe the world is capable of goodness, justice and improvement” calling them “idealistic and naive.” Long may such idealism and naivety flourish. I, for one, would not choose

to bring children into a world where cynicism and despair are presented as the acceptable accompaniments of living. Hope and faith, in large order, and hard work in similar amounts, are the tools which can determine the survival of our world. — Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. August 31, 1986.
