N.Z. to be host for song contest

PA Wellington A popular song contest for countries in Asia and the Pacific will be held in Wellington this year. Last year Singapore was host for the contest, initiated by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. As a member of the A.8.U., Television New Zealand volunteered to be host for the show this year. The 12 countries participating will be Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. The television personalities, Peter Sinclair and Judy Bailey, will act as masters of ceremonies for the A.B.U. Popular Song Contest, TVNZ said. It will be held at the Michael Fowler Centre on November 21, and broadcast live at 8 p.m. Each of the countries participating will send a delegation of officials, singers, composers and a musical director to New Zealand, and will later broadcast the TVNZ production of the contest.
