Cartoned milk closer
PA Wellington Hie Government has cleared the way for the
sale of milk in cardboard cartons — all controls on packaging will be removed from October 1The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, who announced this, yesterday, also said the Government had taken steps to ensure the continued delivery of town milk. The Milk-Board would continue to allocate home milk rounds, and prices would be fixed to prevent undercutting of deliveries by dairies or supermarkets. But the right to supply milk to supermarkets
would go to whoever could best meet their needs after October, he said. Controls on production of town milk would be removed from September ?.i next year and legislation to achieve this would be introduced this year. “The Government is confident that these changes will meet our commitment to the maintenance of home delivery while allowing the maximum competition and encouraging efficiency,” Mr Caygill said.
