Pay increase

A $3l increase in money paid to board members for each meeting they attend had some opposition at a Christchurch Transport Board meeting yesterday. Traditionally, board members have received the maximum fee allowable under the Local Government (Remuneration and Allowances) Notices. This was $29 until earlier this year when it was increased to $6O. Board members were to

vote on the increase yesterday. Two members of the board, Mesdames Honor Bonisch and Carole Evans, thought the increase was too high and moved that the fee be increased only to $4O. This was overturned by the other beard members who said that for the amount of time taken for a meeting, $6O was quite reasonable. “And it’s before tax,” said Mr Newton Dodge. The fee was Increased to $6O.
