McLennans take indoor bowls title
Leon McLennan, and his wife, Liz, beat the Canterbury W.M.C. husband and wife for the indoor bowls pairs title at Papanui last Sunday. The win was another fine success for the former A. S. Paterson trophy skip. His wife holds the Canterbury singles title. It completed a notable double for the Hornby combination, who also hold the Canterbury open title. In the final, they beat the St AlbansShirley team of Owen and Jo Dltfort, 15-6, after losing to the same pair in section play. McLennan jumped to an early 6-0 lead and was 8-4 ahead at the half-way stage. Dltfort managed to close the scores to 10-6, but the McLennans finished on top with a typically strong finish. In the semi-finals McLennan beat the Clark combination from Christchurch, 10-4, and Ditford accounted for the Beeby team from Lyttelton, 10-7, after collecting four on the last end. Results.—
Last eight.— McLennan 9, E. Chaney 4; B. Beeby 12, A. Hunt 4; Ditford 6, L. Bellis 4; S. Clark 12, G. Richards 3.
Semi-finals.— McLennan 10, Clark 4; Ditford 10, Beeby 7. Final. — McLennan 15, Ditfort 6. The Canterbury W.M.C. selectors have named two teams for representative matches.
