Kart drivers battle it out
The open class provided plenty of Interest in the first meeting of the Christchurch Kart Club season at the Radio Avon raceway, Carrs Road.
There was a battle between the 125 cc to 135 cc karts of John Hamilton, Bob McWhinnle, Shane Drake and Damien French, against the 250 cc of Derek Wilson.
All these drivers had their advantage on different parts of the circuit
Murray Davies normally dominates the lOOcc senior class, but last Sunday he was under pressure in all the heats from Nigel Wilkinson, Mark Childs, Gordon Jones and Paul Mills.
The junior class for 12 to 16-year-olds was marred by an accident in the second heat Jason Dell broke a brake cable and hurtled into the safety fence at 80km/h. He was taken to hospital, and later discharged with bad bruising. Results:—
