Company plans to deliver cartoned milk to schools

PA Invercargill Invercargill Milk Supply Company, Ltd, will deliver cartoned unflavoured milk to Invercargill primary schools tomorrow in spite of protests from milk vendors.

The factory manager, Mr John Bradley, yesterday described the supplying of unflavoured milk as “a moral obligation,” but the Southland Milk Ven-

dors* Association sees it as an effort to push cartoned milk on to the market.

Under the Milk Act, whole milk, homogenised milk and non-fat milk must go through a milk vendor.

Although Mr Bradley said the cartoned milk, which has added milk solids, did not come under the Milk Vendors Act, vendors were offered the

delivery to schools with certain conditions. But vendors said the terms were too strict.

The general manager of the Milk Board, Mr Hamish Turnbull, said from Wellington yesterday that if the cartoned milk was not milk as defined under the Milk Act the board would have no objection to the company’s delivering it.
