Changes to fees not affecting entries

PA Wellington The changes to School Certificate examination fees do not appear to be affecting entries for the examination, according to the Education Department

The fee level was changed twice before it was finally settled on July 9, three weeks before the August 1 deadline after which fees are subject to an $ll late fee. The Education Department was considering giving some leeway to schools which could not meet the date because of the late announcement, but has so far had no formal requests from schools for a time extension.

The department’s administration director, Mr Mark Canning, said there did not appear to be a need for an extension as there had been "nothing untoward” in entries to date.

Mr Canning said he was expecting a flood of entries in the next four days.

He would “look carefully” at any schools which were struggling to meet the deadline.
