Sugar cane being chewed by children
Sugar cane is selling for between 60c and 90c a piece in at least one Christchurch outlet.
According to the produce manager at the Linwood City Supervalue supermarket, Warren Gleeson, most customers are buying the sugar cane as a novelty. It seems to be popular with children, who enjoy chewing it. It has been imported from the Pacific Islands. Poultry recipes
There is a $lO,OOO cash prize for the winner of a recipe competition and cooking contest being run
by the newly formed Poultry Industry Association.
Entrants are asked to submit their favourite poultry recipe for two to six servings. It will be judged on taste, appearance, appeal and simplicity. Six finalists will be selected to take part in a national cook-off in October. Arnotts Aulsebrooks, Ltd, has changed its name to Arnotts Biscuits NZ, Ltd. The move follows the Australian company’s pur-
chase of 50 per cent of Aulsebrooks in 1983. Since then Aulsebrooks has progressively launched a range of biscuits under the Arnotts label. Retailers New Zealand retailers will hold their first national conference in Rotorua in September. The four-day event is being run by the Retailers’ Federation. It will cater for a range of retailers including trade groups, young retailers and family firms.
