Appointment for priest

The Rev. Matthew Duggan, parish priest of Sockburn, has been appointed Prelate of Honour with the title of Monsignor by Pope John Paul 11. Father Duggan, who is 60 and was born in Cork, Ireland, was appointed Vicar-General of the diocese of Christchurch last September.

He arrived in Christchurch in 1952, and has had appointments as assistant priest at Greymouth, Papanui, Hokitika, and Riccarton, and as parish priest at Ngahere, Waimate, Ashburton, Leeston, and Sockburn.
