Plays compete for finals berth
Five plays will compete in Christchurch tomorrow and on Saturday in the Canterbury, Marlborough, and West Coast divisional final of the New Zealand Theatre Federation’s annual drama competition.
Four divisional finals are held, the six best plays competing in the national contest in Wellington on August 29 and 30.
The plays to be performed at the Mill Theatre in Addington tomorrow, starting at 7.30 p.m., are: “The Reunion," by Dimitri Gabara, directed by Judy Gabara for Rangi Ruru Girls’ School, Christchurch: “Ritual for Dills," by George Macewen Green, directed by Andrew Davidge for the Elmwood Players, Christchurch. Saturday’s performances, also at 7.30 p.m., are: “Passengers are requested to refrain from conversing with the driver while the bus is in motion,” by Allan Trussel Cullen, of Nelson; “White Liars,” by Peter Shaffer, directed by Guy Ocken-
den for Greymouth High School: and “Lunch Girls,” by Shona MacFarlane, directed by Cynthia Wilson for Nelson Repertory.
The two-day festival of plays will be opened by the Mayor of Riccarton, Mr Richard Harrington.
