Bowlers succumb to colds

KAREN NIMMO

By

NZPA staff correspondent Edinburgh

Several of the New Zealand men’s bowling team have picked up heavy colds with the start of their Commonwealth Games campaign just two days away. The pairs competitors, Wayne Nairn and Maurice Symes, and Keith Slight (fours) were ail forced to spend time in bed this week.

The singles medal hope, lan Dickison, and Stewart McConnell (fours) were also feeling “a bit off-colour” on Tuesday.

But the director of medical services for the New Zealand team, Dr Matt Marshall, said the bowlers were a lot better yesterday. “A lot of competitors in the village have heavy colds. It’s very common when athletes go from one country to another.

“It would be more serious if we were staying in cramped conditions,” he said.
