M.W.D. tendering ‘no advantage’

PA Dunedin Tendering by the Ministry of Works and Development for public contracts put the department in a position of “competitive neutrality” with no special advantage, a Ministry engineer said yesterday.

The Dunedin district civil engineer, Mr Roly Frost, was replying to criticism by Otago con-

tractors who contended that Ministry tendering for “outside” work would have disastrous effects on their business. Mr Frost said the Government had clear intentions to run the Ministry as a successful business enterprise and was keen to place the Ministry, along with some other departments, in a position of competitive neutrality.
