Judging shortfall

NZPA staff correspondent Edinburgh The Commonwealth Games 30km walk, which will feature two New Zealanders, on July 31, is unlikely to meet international requirements. Judges from three different countries must officiate in the contest but only two nations are being represented at the Games. Five British and two Canadian judges will watch the walkers but judges from three different nations are required to disqualify any

competitor. The Christchurch entrant, Graeme Seatter, said New Zealand and Australia had nominated judges to attend but they had not turned tip. They were Australia’s Ray Smith and New Zealand’s Norman Read, the 1956 Olympic gold medallist. “As far as I know there is no indication either judge will turn up at the last minute. They were invited to take part, all expenses paid,” Seatter said.
