New Zealand playwrights, critics and theatre practitioners are being asked to nominate writers for the New Zealand Times Bruce Mason Playwriting Award, worth $4OOO. Playmarket, the New Zealand playwright’s agency and script assessment service, which administers the award, has set up. nominating panels in the six cities with professional theatres. In previous years playwrights have made written entries to Playmarket. The nominations will be

considered by playwright Jeffrey Thomas, Education Department drama advisor and former theatre director Sunny Amey, and Playmarket dramaturge Lester McGrath. They will select the award winner, who will be announced on September 4, at the New Zealand Playwrights Workshop. The “New Zealand Times” and the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council are supporting the workshop, which runs from August 31 to September 7.
