Street plan approved
Turning from Gloucester Street into New Regent Street will soon be a thing of the past The narrow street, with its historical facade, last evening . became a one-way street, north to south.
The change will take effect after sufficient publicity.
The proposal, adopted as a compromise after businesses rejected the idea of the street as a pedestrian mall as allowed for in the Christchurch City Council District Scheme, has support from retailers.
The change is intended to overcome traffic congestion.
