New councillor sworn in

Cr Ruby Fowler was officially added to the Christchurch City Council last evening. She was sworn in as a councillor for the South Ward to replace Cr Rex Lester, who died in April. Cr Fowler, who stood unsuccessfully for the council in 1983, has attended committee and council meetings during the last two months since her name was put forward by the Labour coun- z cil team.

Cr Fowler will be a member of the works and traffic, parks and recreation, cultural and public relations, and community services and health committees and the Canterbury Promotion Council.

There will be some changes also for other councillors on committees.

The other vacancy on the council, caused by the resignation of Cr Mollie Clark to join the Planning Tribunal, will not be filled before the local body elections in October.
