Turner ‘can hack it with the best’
NZPA staff correspondent Turnberry New Zealand's bright young golf hope, Greg Turner, could not complain after three days on the leader board of the 115th British open championships. He was bitterly annoyed, however, with fading in the final round of great tournament yesterday, carding 73, 71, 75, 77 (296). On a dreamy Scottish summer’s day with hardly a breeze coming in off the Irish Sea, Turner finished thirty-fifth, picking up $lO,OOO. "I should be happy. Not many 23-year-olds have played the British Open and been on the leader board for three days,” the lanky Turner said. “This was a great experience, and nice to know I can hack it with the best”
A long list of fine players failed to match Turner’s effort on one of the toughest coastal links in the world.
