Lithography discovered

Lithography, the main kind of surface printing, was invented by a German called Senefelder about 1798. In lithography an artist may use a greasy crayon to draw the image, or may use special ink

and brushes. A design is drawn on to the surface of a metal plate. The design : is “fixed” by a coat of gum or acid. A layer of printing ink is rolled on to the stone, and the ink sticks to the marks of the

drawing. Printing paper is placed on the inked stone and then put through a printing . press. Metal* plates are now used in lithography for printing photographs, posters and maps.
