Sweet Shakespeare
“Sweet Wiliam,” a rock musical about the life of William Shakespeare, will be performed at the Repertory Theatre by St Andrew’s College and Christchurch Girls’ High School.
Performances start at 8 p.m., from July 17 to July 19. There will be a matinee on July 19 at 5 p.m.
About 90 students from the schools are involved, and this is the first time St Andrew’s and Christchurch Girls’ have combined for a production. “Sweet William” is a witty and lighthearted look at Shakespeare’s life and loves — his Stratford-upon-Avon boyhood, his youthful marriage and early domestic responsi-
bilities in plague-ridden London, his romantic attachment to the Dark Lady and the flowering of his literary genius. Set in the reign of Elizabeth I, the elaborate costumes and sets have been designed and partly constructed by St Andrews’ art master, Peter Noonan.
