Army Band in week of concerts
The New Zealand Army Band will perform in the Christchurch Town Hall on July 19 — fireworks and all! The band is based at Burnham and last performed in Christchurch with a marching display at the rugby test at Lancaster Park last month. The "Brass with Class” concert will be the last time this combination of musicians appears together. Twenty of the band members have been posted to Singapore for two years’ service.
The concern will include Manhattan Transfer numbers, the full band chorale, the Slavonic Rhapsody and the 1812 Overture — complete with fireworks. It will also include a musical fairy story for younger members of the audience. In the week before the concert, the band will march through Christchurch streets and hold concerts for schools. The band last appeared in the Christchurch Town Hall in April 1984.
