Cricket tour

Three test matches and four one-day internationals have been , proposed by the New Zealand Cricket Council. for the West Indies tour to New Zealand early next year. The chairman of the N.Z.C.C. Board of Control, Mr Bob Vance, has taken a draft of the suggested itinerary to London where he will discuss the tour with the president of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control, Mr Allan Rae. Jn addition to the international fixtures, the N.Z.C.C. has proposed at least two three-day matches, but these almost certainly will not be against provincial teams.

The N.Z.C.C. has its next board meeting in Christchurch on August 15-16, and its executive

director, Mr Graham Dowling, said yesterday that a reply was anticipated in time for discussion at that meeting. “It is likely we will have some response by then. It is important for us from a planning point of view,” he added.

One grey area, which will not be finalised until shortly before the tour begins in February, is when the West Indies will arrive in New Zealand. They will be competing in the Benson and Hedges one-day series against England and Australia. Their arrival date could depend on whether the West Indies qualify for the best-of-three finals and, if so, whether those finals go as far as a deciding third match.
