Bellis takes pairs title

Lloyd Bellis and his lead, Allan Quirke (Hoon Hay W.M.C.), are the Canterbury indoor bowls pairs champions for 1986.

In the final of the title event sponsored by the Islington Meat Market, at Kearneys Road hall, Bellis and Quirke beat Ken and Marie Watson (Garden City), 10-8. Bellis and Quirke made, a good start winning four out of the first five ends to hold a good lead of 9-1.

The Watsons scored con-

sistently over the next four ends to narrow the gap to three points. A single to Bellis on the tenth end left the Watsons four shots down with two ends to play. Two singles to the Watsons on the last two ends were not enough to catch Bellis, however. From an entry of 195 pairs, 66 qualified for post-section play. Results were.— Last 8 mats.— T.
