Duo should progress
l Last season’s finalists in the English Cup soccer knockout competition, Classique Technical and Christchurch Brother United, should have easy passages to the quarterfinals of the 1986 contest. First-round matches will be played on July 20 at Halswell Domain and Kendall Park, Kaiapoi. Technical has a bye while United, which won the 1985 final at Queen Elizabeth II Park, 3-1, will meet Akaroa. Victory would give United a match against St Albans-Shirley — which has a first round bye — while
Technical will meet either University or North Beach Parklands. English Cup games will go to extra time and penalty shootouts, should 90 minutes not produce a result. Three other teams have first round byes; Teachers College, Malvern, and Sharp Copiers Western.
The first round has thrown up three interesting clashes, all at Halswell Domain. KLM Cashmere will meet a fellow Hertz League team, Woolston W.M.C.; Burndale United, which is certain of winning the premier division, will do
battle with the third-placed southern league side, Shamrock; while the top southern league side, Andas Halswell United, will play Nomads United.
Other first round games are New Brighton v. Kaiapoi, Bays United v. Papanui Redwood, Budget House Rangers v. Ranglora, Moorhouse Mazda High School Old Boys v. Riccarton, University v. North Beach Parklands (all at Kendall Park), Burwood v. Burnham and Lincoln College v. South Canterbury United (at Halswell).
